Editing Metadata: The NPS Info Section:

The NPS Info Section (Section 0) is one section that must be edited in the NPS Metadata Editor Tab. This section contains general information about the Park or Office and the Data Steward for the dataset.

To edit metadata, simply click on the green text. For many fields, a drop-down list will appear from which you can select an entry for that field. This helps to simplify your job and reduce typing errors.

As shown below, there are a number of choices for the Metadata Purpose field. The default is NPS. If you have written FGDC-compliant metadata (as you should), add CSDGM as a second Metadata Purpose. If you plan to post the actual dataset to the Data Store (rather than the metadata alone), add a third Purpose of OnlineData.

NOTE: When you select an NPS Unit Alpha Code, it is very important that you select the correct park so that your data can be found when someone searches for data by park in the Data Store.

Notice the purple text in the image below. The purple color means this text has been edited but the changes have not been saved. To save edits, click the Save button (the disk circled below). Saved text will be displayed in blue. If you attempt to leave the NPS Metadata Editor Tab without saving your edits, you will be prompted to save.
